Carl joined the Team in April this year and has been instrumental in the development of SchoolsBi, working closely with our customers to ensure the relevant development of new features and versions.  Based in the Midlands, Carl visits the Somerset Head Office at least once a month to strategise, and obviously partake in the odd night out!

Background

Here is little bit of an insight into Carl’s career prior to joining SchoolsBi:-

• Michelin: bus and truck tyre service management
  • Curated management information for senior managers to assess profitability of tyre contracts with logistics and bus companies
  • Presented tyre performance activity to customers to illustrate the benefits, safety and longevity of a premium brand like Michelin compared with cheaper, lower quality alternatives
  • Predictive analysis of tyre performance data to determine when tyres are likely to need maintenance or removal due to wear
• EcoAct: climate/sustainability consultancy
  • created reports and dashboards so that senior management could track the project performance of its client base.
  • produced energy offset reports for EcoAct clients to show year-on-year improvements in energy consumption and green initiatives.
• Barclays: machine-learning project to enable the bank to identify fraudulent consumer debit and credit card transactions faster and with improved accuracy
  • development of proof-of-concept machine-learning model and comparison of ‘before and after’ results to demonstrate improvements (Barclays was previously suffering from a high proportion of false positive fraud alerts and unnecessarily contacting customers)
  • project performance reporting, budget, spend forecasting, and project resourcing
• Staffordshire University: team lead for Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey (national annual survey of university graduate outcomes)
  • collated results of feedback from telephonists who carried out daily phone questionnaires with recent graduates from the University
  • daily report of summarised information to management team e.g. number of people interviewed, classification of respondents’ jobs, project risks, predicting survey end date and tracking resource requirements

As is clearly demonstrated here, Carl has oodles of experience with data, and tons of great ideas on how to best use that information to benefit Schools and MAT’s alike.  The commercial sector is ahead of the game, regarding Business Intelligence (BI), compared to education so Carl has been an invaluable source of innovation; altering and applying some of the strategies already employed in Business.

Personal Note

In his office Carl has an untraditional companion, Snowball The Budgie.  Frequently Snowball chips in on calls, adding in his input, whether it is wanted or not 🤣!  It turns out that this is a bit of an avian household as Carl, his wife & children, also share their home with 3 chickens – Katsu, Korma, and Chickoletta 😁!  Carl refuses to take any responsibility for their naming!
